As the sun heats up, swimming pools can be a great place to cool down and have fun. However, safety must be a top priority when enjoying the pool. Drowning remains the leading cause of accidental death for children under 5 years old in Orange County. This summer, please join us in raising awareness of drowning prevention by sharing these tips. Drowning Prevention Tips: Closely supervise children whenever they are near water (including bathtubs, toilets and buckets). Because drowning can happen quickly, keep children within an arm’s length of you. Pools should have fences and drains that meet regulations. Pool gates should be self-closing and self-latching. Parents and caregivers should know how to perform rescue techniques (like CPR) to respond to an emergency. For more information on how to prevent drowning, see the attached “Water Safety Checklist” (CLICK HERE) or visit DrowningPreventionOC.org.
