As the sun heats up, swimming pools can be a great place to cool down and have fun. However, safety must be a top priority when enjoying the pool.

Drowning remains the leading cause of accidental death for children under 5 years old in Orange County. This summer, please join us in raising awareness of drowning prevention by sharing these tips.

Drowning Prevention Tips:

  • Closely supervise children whenever they are near water (including bathtubs, toilets and buckets). Because drowning can happen quickly, keep children within an arm's length of you.
  • Pools should have fences and drains that meet regulations. Pool gates should be self-closing and self-latching.
  • Parents and caregivers should know how to perform rescue techniques (like CPR) to respond to an emergency.
